Chris Stewart President & CEO, Director
Christopher Stewart is a Professional Engineer with over 29 years of management, operational and technical experience in the mining industry. Chris has worked for the first 14 years of his career with DMC Mining building, expanding and operating various mine operations across Canada and the USA and for the past 15 years, he has worked for several mining companies. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University.Prior to joining Minto Exploration, Chris was President & COO for McEwen Mining, a precious metals producer with operations in Canada, USA, Mexico and Argentina. Prior to that he held various senior roles including President & CEO for Treasury Metals, Vice President of Operations for Kirkland Lake Gold, President & CEO of Liberty Mines, BHP Billiton, Lake Shore Gold Corporation and DMC Mining Services.
David J. Birch Chief Financial Officer
David Birch has over 20 years of senior financial management experience at publicly traded, enterprise-level companies. Prior to joining Minto, David worked at Waterloo Brewing Ltd. as Chief Financial Officer & Secretary from January 2018 to July 2021. Subsequently, David served as CFO for Liberty Mines along with serving at Anheuser Busch InBev in senior financial roles including Vice President, Commercial Finance, and Director of Finance. David is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA-CMA) and has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from York University.
Loralee Johnstone Vice President, Environment Social Governance
Loralee Johnstone has over 25 years of experience in Community and Government Relations, Environmental Management, Permitting, and Policies and Procedures. Loralee has held several senior leadership roles and most recently VP, Corporate Social Responsibility at Whitehorse Corp. and Director, Permitting & Community Relations at Coeur Mining. Loralee has considerable knowledge in the mining industry in British Columbia and the Yukon and has also held key local roles including Manager for Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Board (YESAB) and Chair of the Yukon Water Board.
David Benson Vice President, Exploration
David Benson is a Professional Geologist and has over 15 years of experience in the mining industry, in various leadership roles where he was accountable for leading the Exploration Department. He has spent a great deal of his career on successful exploration and drilling programs at the organizations he worked for including most recently at Impala Lac Des Isle Mine where he and his team discovered new, high-grade ore lenses. David has held various Geologist and Exploration Manager positions in the past including Vice President, Exploration and Director at Bison Gold Resources.
Tracy Dormer Vice President, HR & Camp Operations
Tracy Dormer has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, and Camp Administration. Tracy spent her early career in Information Technology before transitioning to Human Resources where she has worked for 20 years building teams and creating strong company cultures both domestically and internationally. She built her career working with large oil and gas companies in Alberta with Cenovus Energy, Nexen, Vermilion Energy, and SNC Lavalin before moving into the mining industry with Coeur Mining. She holds a diploma in Information Technology from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology, a diploma in Geological Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Administration from Athabasca University.
Esteban Figueroa General Manager
Esteban is a Professional Electrical Engineer and Project Manager and has over 25 years of experience in the mining industry, in various leadership roles where he was accountable for leading Electrical, Maintenance and Operations teams. He has spent a good part of his career in Ghana, United Kingdom and Africa and most recently as the General Manager at the Brucejack mine with Pretivm Resources in Northern British Columbia. Esteban holds a Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria.
Tania Barreto Director, Investor Relations
Tania Barreto has 17 years of experience in Investor Relations and has spent her entire career in the mining industry developing relationships. Her strong understanding of the capital markets and financial industry has elevated many publicly traded companies to success and marketed them to new heights. Tania recently was the Head of Investor Relations at Maritime Resources and past roles has held roles as VP, Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs at Golden Star Resources, VP, Investor Relations at Oceanus Resources along with senior roles at Roxgold Inc. Primero Mining and Detour Gold Corporation. Tania holds a CPIR designation from the Ivey School of Business and has a General Arts and Sciences Diploma from Humber College.”
Dennis Bigras Director, Mill & Surface Operations
Dennis Bigras has over 25 years of experience in milling and mineral processing (copper, gold, platinum, palladium, lead, zinc, coal) in Canada including roles with Teck Resources in the Applied Research and Technology group, as well as with North American Palladium, Kinross, and Royal Oak Mines. Most recently he had the role of Metallurgist and Mill Superintendent with Kirkland Lake Gold, Macassa Operation and most recently, was the Mill Manager with the McEwen Mining team in Timmins, Ontario. Dennis holds a diploma in Mining Engineering Technology from the Haileybury School of Mines.
Channa Kumarage Director, Corporate Development
Channa Kumarage has 8 years of experience all in the mining industry as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. His strength in strategic mine planning, reserve estimation and financial modelling has supported companies similar to his recent role at McEwen Mining and previously Alamos Gold. He brings a great deal of knowledge and value to Minto in being able to provide strength to our engineering team and support on corporate development opportunities going forward. Channa has a Bachelor of Science in Mineral Engineering from the University of Toronto.
